Notes

This estate is not named in the almanacs until 1823. Given that John Simpson Waite registered between 26 and 54 enslaved people in the givings-in from 1809 to 1821 it is likely that they were settled on land rather than being a jobbing gang. Therefore it is assumed that Waite owned Summer Hill before 1823.

Alternatively, he may have bought Summer Hill from John Armstrong, who registered enslaved people on Summer Hill in the givings-in 1809-1817. Currently the Summer Hill owned by John Armstrong is listed as a separate estate.
