In 1776, James Ford, Thomas Linley and Richard Brinsley Sheridan paid £35,000 for David Garrick's half-share in the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. In 1788 Ford reportedly sold his then interest of 1/4 in the whole theatre to Sheridan.

Daughter of "free Mulatto" lodging-house-keeper Jane Charlotte Beckford (c. 1759-1825); possibly the daughter of George Ffrench, Clerk to the Jamaica Assembly. Spinster; independently wealthy slave-owner.
