The award was split: £780 15s 5d went to each claimant. 214B (awarded to Thomas Bell) is dated 06/03/1837.

 

&81/881: claim by D.S. Laidlaw and Thomas Bell, as owners. Counterclaim from the Quin family, of Guadeloupe: 'notice by claimant Thos Bell to counterclaimants above named dated 15/10/1836 that unless they appeared before the Commissioners on the next day appointed for Dominica, the case would be heard ex parte'.  

 

The estate (Wotton Waven) was owned by J. D. S. Laidlaw in the 1860s.

 

T71/363 p. 68: Dugald S. Laidlaw registered 36 enslaved persons to himself, including an enslaved person inherited from Mrs Laidlaw (formerly Miss d'Anglebermes) and another enslaved person received as a gift from his father-in-law J.P. d'Anglebermes.
