Research summary

Dr George researches principally in Child and Family Law, with a particular focus on matters relating to international disputes involving children. He is an acknowledged expert in relocation disputes, abduction and international jurisdictional disputes involving children and families. Dr George also works on broader issues relating to children and families, including family finance disputes, discrimination and equality issues, and the working of the family justice system.

Dr George's work combines doctrinal and empirical methodologies to allow him to focus on researching the practice of the law, as well as its theoretical basis. He is particularly interested in the ways in which trial judges and lawyers apply legal principles to the facts of everyday cases in the family courts, and has experience of using a wide variety of empirical methodologies to investigate this issue. Along with Dr Anna Remington at the Institute of Education, Dr George has recently been awarded a Grand Challenges award to investigate the experiences of autistic people involved in family court proceedings.
