The Bloomsbury Higher Education Research series will reflect the scale and scope of CGHE's research projects, which bring together 13 different universities with UCL Institute of Education (IOE) as the lead partner.

The series will focus on contemporary issues and challenges facing higher education across the world. Written by the Centre's team of international researchers, it will provide uniquely wide-ranging perspectives directly relevant to higher education policy, management, practice and theory.

The evidence-based series will consist of social science research on global, international, national and local aspects of higher education, drawing on methodologies in education, learning theory, sociology, economics, political science and policy studies.

Topics will include:

  • teaching and learning and technologies,
  • research and research impact in industry,
  • national system design,
  • fees and the financial sustainability of higher education,
  • trends in graduate employment and employability,
  • the public good role of universities,
  • social stratification and equity,
  • institutional governance and management,
  • the dynamic development of higher education in East Asia, and
  • the cross-border mobility of people, institutions, programmes, ideas and knowledge.

The series will be relevant globally to policymakers, government regulators, higher education professionals and senior management, academic faculty, and students and researchers in the fields of higher education and other social science disciplines.

Simon Marginson, Professor of International Higher Education Strategy at the IOE and Director of CGHE, said:

"At a time when we are seeing a dramatic growth in the role and importance of universities across the world, this series will provide a timely critical analysis of the key challenges facing higher education and global society. We are delighted to team up with Bloomsbury Academic, a world-renowned publisher, to bring the expertise of our researchers to a wider audience. We hope the global and comparative perspective of the series will inform and improve future higher education policy and practice, not just in the four nations of the UK but around the world."

Alison Baker, Publisher (Education) at Bloomsbury, added:

"We are excited to work with the world-leading Centre for Global Higher Education. We look forward to working closely with Professor Simon Marginson and his team in publishing world class research, providing high quality services and bringing their work to international markets. Bloomsbury Higher Education Research will be a key series in our well-established and growing education portfolio."
