Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS)

The Institute of Advanced Studies is a space dedicated to intellectual freedom where disruptive thinking is not only allowed but encouraged and supported. It is a centre of advanced research, debate and dialogue across any kind of boundary, intellectual or institutional. It’s a forum where difficult, even intractable, social questions can be exposed to the scrutiny of rigorous critical enquiry from a variety of perspectives.  Professor Nicola Miller, IAS Director

"This artwork started from watercolour drawings made from looking at the ground: leaves, rocks, twigs, odd and ends. I put my focus on what is physically near me and not obvious to the impatient eye; a secret space. I had in mind the Rhizome root system which interconnects plants in a collective network of growth. I started to imagine new connections in my drawings. The roots, leaves and rocks reaching towards the creation of new species, new movements, a lush environment of possibilities. I hope that this work reflects and represents IAS, a space where every subject is considered equal and able to meet one another, interact, collaborate and flourish."
