The Institute of Advanced Studies is very pleased to be able to host the first day of activities of Engaging Refugee Narratives: two days of workshops, seminars and performances bringing together academics, arts-based NGOs and artists working with refugees.
Food, shelter and medical aid are the urgent requirements of displaced refugees. However, their psychological and social needs must also be addressed to enable adjustment to traumas, changing circumstances, and an essential maintenance of human dignity. Engaging with individual narratives and enabling creative expression has been shown to be an effective way to work through trauma, build community and increase quality of life generally.
