· Energy systems modelling and spatial geography

· Energy systems modelling and macro-economic implications

Whole Systems Energy Modelling PhD Studentship

We are looking for candidates with a specialism in quantitative analysis (economics, engineering, operations research, science, quantitative social science) applicable to energy systems. Applicants should also have a deep interest in the possible evolution of the UK and international energy system in ways that reduce carbon emissions and increase energy security.

We are offering one fully funded studentship for entry into the 2014 academic year (September 2014). The studentship will be based at UCL where you will be supervised by world-leading academics supported by the UK’s largest energy systems modelling research team (coordinated through the wholeSEM consortium).

You will have the opportunity to engage closely with partners in industry, policy, NGOs and academia to pursue relevant and timely research, providing multiple routes into future employment in the rapidly expanding energy field. You will gain business and innovation skills; project and programme management skills; teamwork, communication and leadership skills; and the ability to seek solutions to complex, multifaceted problems.

The four-year EPSRC DTG studentship consists of UK/EU fees, a stipend of £15,863 per annum (indexed increases in subsequent years), plus an additional £1,000 per annum to spend on research related expenses. The stipend is tax free (conditions apply).
