Join Ralph Dartford and the ‘Phil Burdett Ensemble’ for an early evening exploration of spoken word and music. Ralph will be reading from his current highly acclaimed collection, ‘Recovery Songs’ and his forthcoming sophomore work, ‘Hidden Music’.

Phil Burdett is a singer/songwriter/poet. He was born in Bexleyheath, Kent in 1961. He has been writing & recording many poems & albums of music for nearly four decades. He currently lives in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex.

The Phil Burdett Ensemble is a project that combines both poetry & song featuring two musicians who have regularly accompanied PB both on albums & at live shows over many years:
STEVE STOTT – Mandolin/Fiddle
COLLEEN McCARTHY – Keyboards/Vocals/Ether Pad

An album - ‘DARK TRAD SISTER’ - comprising of readings by Phil of a selection of poems from his two collections ‘RHYMING VODKA WITH KAFKA’ & ‘THE POOR RIVER LOST ITS MIND’ set to music will be available at the show & subsequently via the website.

Ralph Dartford:

Ralph Dartford hails from Basildon in Essex, and now lives in West Yorkshire, having got there via Australia, Barcelona and Los Angeles. He was the founding member of influential spoken word collective ‘A Firm of Poets’, and his first collection of poetry, Cigarettes, Beer and Love was published by Ossett Observer Presents in 2013. His latest collection, Recovery Songs – also touring as a spoken word show – was published by Valley Press in 2019.
