The Robert Fine Memorial Lecture 2023
The inaugural London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism Annual Robert Fine Memorial Lecture will be given by Howard Jacobson.
The London Centre honours the memory of Robert Fine (1945-2018), a Sociologist and Social Theorist, whose work is a key inspiration for our project, to challenge the intellectual underpinnings of antisemitism.
Howard Jacobson is a Man Booker Prize winning novelist and essayist whose writing has explored, amongst many other things, the contemporary threat of antisemitism, from a number of different angles and in diverse registers.
Danny Trom, a sociologist from the Institut Marcel Mauss at the Ecole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, will offer us his perspective on contemporary antisemitism.
Luciana Berger, one of the key leaders of the political resistance to the antisemitism of the Jeremy Corbyn movement in British politics will be in conversation with Glyn Cousin and Philip Spencer.
The London Centre will award the Pete Newbon Prize for the greatest contribution to the public understanding of antisemitism, and the £1000 LCSCA Prize, for the best book on antisemitism. Details here.
Shirley Smart (cello) and James Arben (bass clarinet) will play an original piece of music by the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the London Centre, Sam Eatsmond. The piece is called The Shadows of The Protocols.
David Hirsh, Anthony Julius, Lydia Morris and Daniel Chernilo will also contribute.
