The LIFE Programme is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action. It has now launched its 2020 call for proposals which includes new features related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NIHR

The Global Effort on COVID-19 (GECO) Health Research

Global Effort on COVID-19 (GECO) Health Research is a new cross UK government funding call aiming to support applied health research that will address COVID-19 knowledge gaps. The focus is on understanding the pandemic and mitigating its health impacts in low and middle-income countries (LMIC). The call prioritises epidemiology, clinical management, infection control and health system responses. The call is supported by: the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) through the NIHR and the Medical Research Council (MRC), which is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Charity & Sparks

GOSH Charity and Sparks National Funding Call 2020/21

GOSH Charity and Sparks are inviting project grant applications for paediatric health research studies focusing on complex or rare diseases. The call will support research across the spectrum of medical conditions affecting the foetus, neonates and children directly, as well as pregnancy disorders that affect the child. Applications seeking to understand how COVID-19 affects children will also be considered, particularly in the context of pre-existing diseases or conditions. Up to £250,000 available for projects of up to 3 years in duration.

Encephalitis and COVID-19 Seed Funding

The Encephalitis Society is inviting applications for their Encephalitis and Covid-19 - International Research Seed Funding. Researchers can apply for up to £10,000 in seed funding for a project specific on encephalitis and covid-19 with a duration of up to 18 months. The fund is open to applicants worldwide and to all levels from medical students, junior doctors and early researchers, those returning to research to post-doctoral research or equivalent professional experience.

FORMAS and MSB, Sweden

Societal effects and opportunities for transition after Covid-19

This call aims to increase society’s preparedness and resilience in order to address future crises and to increase our understanding of the impacts of Covid-19 and the opportunities for transformation and recovery in the face of crises. Researchers can apply for 500,000–1 million Swedish kronor (SEK) per project.

NIHR

PRP Recovery, Renewal, Reset: Research to inform policy responses to COVID-19 in the health and social care systems

The NIHR Policy Research Programme (NIHR PRP) invites applications for research to inform the medium- to long-term policy response to challenges posed by COVID-19; and to capture learning arising from the pandemic. Projects are expected to last no more than 24 months. Between £50,000-£500,000 available per project.

Covid BAME Highlight Notice: COVID-19 and minority ethnic groups: Understanding the reasons for vulnerability to COVID-19 and the differential social, cultural and economic impacts of the pandemic on minority ethnic groups

This call seeks to understand the vulnerability of minority ethnic groups to COVID-19 and the emerging social, economic and cultural impacts of the pandemic on these groups. Proposals, which are strongly encouraged to be multidisciplinary consortium bids, must set out a clear strategy for maximising the potential for knowledge exchange with policymakers, practitioners and the UK's minority ethnic communities.

Health Foundation

COVID-19 Research Programme

The Health Foundation has launched a new research programme, which seeks to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in two distinct areas: 1) how health and social care service delivery has changed in light of COVID-19; 2) the impact of COVID-19 on health inequalities and the wider determinants of health. The Health Foundation are inviting projects to apply for funding between £100k-£200k per project for a duration of up to 12 months (including set-up time).

AMable Open Call for Solution Ideas (COVID-19)

AMable aims to support ideas that help against shortages in products, problems in medical care and other issues that affect our social life and the economic environment, in relation to COVID-19. Support of up to €10,000 will go to the applicant to experiment on the realisation of the "solution idea". Experts from the consortium will actively support the activity to jump start and accelerate the work.

Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre: the impact of COVID-19 on modern slavery

Through this new COVID-19 rapid response funding call, proposals are invited for research that can generate evidence to improve understanding of the effects of the pandemic on behaviours, systems and structures associated with modern slavery. Research proposals submitted can aim to address both the effects of and responses to the pandemic, and should have an appropriate balance between identifying problems and proposing actions to address or mitigate those problems. Fast Grants

Fast Funding for COVID-19 Science

Science funding mechanisms are too slow in normal times and may be much too slow during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fast Grants are an effort to correct this.
