Eight Great It's All Academic Festival Things

Alongside the talks, tours and workshops at the It's All Academic Festival on 10 June, there's a whole host of other free activities you can get involved in without booking- just show up on the day and join in. Here are a few of our favourites:

1. Mechanical Engineering: The Paddock

Get hands on with displays from the UCL Mechanical Engineering team in the North Cloisters. Immerse yourself in our VR environments, visit our newly designed racing vehicles, including our eco-marathon vehicle, and race against the clock in our F1 pit stop challenge.

2. Neurology Crafts

Visit the UCL Neurology team's stand in the North Cloisters and find out more about their work and how the brain works. Have a go at making your own brain hat, creating brain cells from pipe cleaners or a DNA chain from sweets.

3. Got Brains: Art and Science

How does your brain, become a brain? Are you, just your brain? A Pint of Science's Creative Reactions team are hosting an exhibition in the Darwin Lecture theatre foyer to explore how your early cells become your whole brain, though amazing and clever processes. See unique artwork created for the event by Ed Saye and Robbie O'Keefe in collaboration with UCL neuroscientist Dr Charlie Arber. You can join the talk to accompany the exhibition at 4pm.

4. Twinkle: A Mission to Unravel the Story of Planets in our Galaxy

Have you ever wondered what the weather is like on the hundreds of planets discovered around distant stars? The Twinkle space mission will observe more than one hundred known exoplanets and will unveil their weather, history and the chemical composition of their atmospheres. Join the UCL Astronomy team's interactive exhibit in the Garden Room to find out more.

5. Speakers Corner

Covering everything from social media to why history isn't always as it seems, UCL Press present a series of short pop-up lectures from some of UCL’s most exciting academics. Join us throughout the day in the South Cloisters to learn something new!

6. Art Museum: Public Curating Take Over

Have you ever wondered how curators work with museum collections to create exhibitions? Join us for an afternoon curating your own public exhibition at UCL Art Museum. See some of our exceptional works by the likes of Rembrandt, Van Dyck and Turner and work with our experts to discuss the ins and outs of curatorial practice.

7. Alumni lounge

Alumni and current students are welcome to join us in our exclusive alumni lounge in the Main Quad Marquee. Come and meet the alumni team, find out more about our mentoring programme, join us for free refreshments and share your favourite memories of UCL. Visit the Haldane Room on the day to register and receive your wristband.

8. Slade School of Fine Art Graduate Show

Visit the Slade School of Fine Art to see amazing final year work by students graduating from the MA, MFA and PhD programmes.

These are just a few of our favourite things. To find out more about the It's All Academic Festival and view the full programme visit our website.
