Introduction
Before you start learning how to read Cyrllic beware that the Russian stress is more forceful than in English. Vowels in unstressed syllables
are pronouned less distinctly and that is why there are differences between spelling and pronunciation. In our pages on how to read Cyrllic we
will give two versions of how a word is pronounced. Firstly, a word will be read slowly, syllable by syllable, without the stress. And then, with
the stress.
Compare:
АТОМ
АТОМ
In this word the first syllable is stressed which makes the vowel O in the unstressed syllable pronounced less distinctly,
something like A. |
