Web Statistics

A range of web statistics are available to users. The statistics are provided weekly by Information Systems

General Statistics

Web Server Statistics for web sites on the main UCL Web Server are analysed weekly using a server-based piece of software called Analog. Statistics available include:

  • A General Summary detailing overall statistics such as number of successful requests
  • A monthly, daily and hourly summary
  • A domain report - i.e. a list of the countries of the computers which requested web files
  • Organisation requests - i.e. a list of the top 20 organisations and service providers which requested web files
  • Status code report, file type report and file request report

A full list of directories that are compiled by Analog can be found by following this link If you wish to have your website added to this list contact web-support@ucl.ac.uk. Please note that this service is only available to websites that are hosted on the main UCL Web Server

The statistic provided by Analog can be both confusing and misleading if interpretted wrongly. Users may find the following links useful:

Browser Accesses by Browser Type

A list of accesses to the UCL web server by browser type (and search engine robots) can be viewed by following this link. Browser type is expressed as raw data and as a percentage. Users may be interested to note that the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer account for over 75% of web accesses.

Browser Accesses by Operating System

A list of accesses to the UCL web server by client operating system can be viewed by following this link. OS type is expressed as raw data and as a percentage. The Windows NT figures also incorporate users accessing with Windows XP.
