UCLIC works with business in a number of ways based around the complementary aims of transferring research into practice, grounding research in practical experience and fostering links between students and potential employers. We place the highest value on working with business and give top priority to consolidating, strengthening and increasing the scope of our business skills.

At present, we are collaborating with industry partners on a number of research projects - one such project is ‘Beyond Individual persuasion: Towards a Paradigm Shift in Interactive Visualisation and Sensing for Environmental Change’, where industry partners facilitate research deployments across the private, non-profit and higher education sectors and provide us with strategic advice to broaden the scope and impact of our work. In the past, the CHI+MED project involved working with manufacturers of medical devices to improve the safety of interactive (programmable) medical devices, such as infusion pumps.

We also collaborate with industry and consultancy companies to provide the very best learning experience to students on our postgraduate courses. Such links enable recruitment opportunities for industry partners while allowing our students to gain real world experience in different workplace settings.  Students can undertake MSc projects or internships hosted by partners such as the BBC, Google and Microsoft. Our industry partners can also raise their profile by contributing to our courses through lectures and practice seminars.
