UCL announces partners for £1.25 billion capital programme

UCL has announced its new consultancy framework that will support the delivery of one of the largest capital programmes in the sector at a launch held earlier this week (14 May 2018).
Thirty-four consultants have secured a place on UCL’s most comprehensive estate construction consultancy framework which includes partners in architecture, project management, cost management, civil and structural engineering, MEP (mechanical, electrical and public health) engineering and building surveying.
The new Framework will build long-term relationships with partners, and will primarily support the Estates Development and Capital programme as well as the work carried out through the Strategic Maintenance Programme.
Throughout the selection process, based on a voluntary OJEU process, particular attention was paid to ensuring there would be representation from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to create a diverse and collaborative framework.
Kevin Argent, Director of Estates Development, congratulated the selected partners who excelled in meeting the criteria of the selection process.
“This is an exciting time for UCL Estates and our new partners as we complete the first phase of our ambitious capital programme and enter the next phase which will include a large variety of projects to ensure that UCL has buildings and facilities needed to house UCL’s leading world-class research and departments.

We will be supporting our partners to push boundaries with us, to nurture new talent; I want to see future leaders developing on our projects. This is a huge opportunity for everyone involved.”
The announcement of the five-year framework comes as the University celebrates the four-year milestone into its £1.25 billion 10 year Transforming UCL Programme – an extensive building and refurbishment programme to transform of the University’s Bloomsbury Campus and most iconic buildings.
Since the introduction of the capital programme we have seen the refurbishment of 22 Gordon Street, home of the Bartlett School of Architecture; the new Wilkins Terrace and the Lower Refectory at the heart of the listed Wilkins building; Bentham House, home of the Faculty of Law; new high-quality teaching spaces at 1-19 Torrington Place; and the Kathleen Lonsdale Building, home of Earth Sciences.
In the years ahead we will see the opening of the New Student Centre which will provide a mix of learning spaces, creating different types of individual study and group collaboration settings, as well as more social learning environments. The main works are well advanced and will open to students in early 2019.
Following the opening of new high-tech facilities at Here East in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park last year for the Bartlett school of Architecture and Faculty of Engineering, this is being extended for a new School of Real Estate opening later this year.
UCL’s space at Here East is only the start of UCL’s presence in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the first facilities at UCL East expected to open in 2021.
