Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering
SpaceTimeLab is a multidisciplinary research centre in the Department of Civil,
Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, University College London. TheSpaceTimeLab promotes and enhances research on spatio-temporal
society, economics and engineering.
Key features of the of SpaceTimeLab are encapsulated in our logo, which integrates elements of the following five concepts:
The logo can be perceived as a 2D hexagon, but on closer examination the 3D nature of the cubic structure is revealed. Our analysis integrates both 3D space and time.
The logo strongly suggests interconnectivity, with the vertices of the cube creating a network. A network is one way of modelling complex spatio-temporal problems.
When perceived as a 2D hexagon, the outer vertices of the symbol bear reference to a circle of connected people. We deal with issues such as crime, transport and economics, that affect people's daily life.
Greens and blues have been chosen in reference to this core tool of the lab. Maps are essential for effectively visualising and communicating results
The logo has been designed to have a geometric feel and convey the sense of digitalisation. We work with big data, which can be both geographically and temporally referenced.
