With the aid of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship, Mark Godfrey completed Abstraction and the Holocaust (Yale University Press, 2007) looking at the way American artists and architects engaged the memory of the Holocaust. The study considers abstract work, so the connections to the Holocaust are complex, relying neither on depiction nor symbolism. The study covers paintings, sculptures, architectural proposals, and video installation.
