Abdulmohsen Albinali – MA/MFA/PhD

Based between London and Riyadh

Coming from a multi-disciplinary background, I work in several different media of sculptural nature. My practice involves an experimentation with ceramics, tiles, metal, taxidermy, plants, hives, stop-motion animation, miniature landscaping, found objects, printmaking, collage, painting, video, and interactive media.

Through my practice i thrive to strike an aesthetic that balances chaos and order, as well as blurs lines of artificial with the organic. Objects are merged, assembled, or made with materials that serve and relate to the narratives unfolding in my work. My aesthetic stems from research. I explore folklore, history, archeology, and gardening, and am driven by a fascination with the natural world and the translations of pre-verbal spaces into tradition.

In my work I investigate the correlations between the collective perception of nature and our individual place within it. Through the use of myth as a reference point I examine the human capacity to experience nature  by revisiting and deconstructing the elements composing my landscape.
