To coincide with the opening of the new Denys Holland Lecture Theatre, UCL alumnus Vincent Cheung funded a competition to produce a portrait of Professor Denys Holland. The Denys Holland Portrait Competition invited submissions from all current and graduating students at the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) in 2010/11.

The winning artist received a First Prize of £5,000 and his portrait will be on permanent display in the Denys Holland Lecture Theatre at UCL Laws. The four runners-up each received £1,000.

Catharina Cronenberger Golebiowska, Kaneumiah Choi, Donal Maloney, Martine Poppe and Sorcha Williams were the shortlisted artists. Donal Maloney was announced as the winner of the competition on 15 February 2011, at the official opening of the Denys Holland Lecture Theatre.
