Chris Mathys

Chris Mathys

Chris Mathys, MSc, MSc, PhD, works at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at UCL and at the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research. He is a candidate with the Swiss Society for Psychoanalysis. He studied Interdisciplinary Science (major: Theoretical Physics) at ETH Zurich, then ventured into the IT industry for several years, where he worked for a mobile applications company that he partly owned. After the sale of this company, he returned to academia and did a master's degree in psychology at the University of Zurich while doing experimental work at Harvard's Music and Neuroimaging Laboratory and gaining clinical experience at Berlin's Charité hospital. He then returned to ETH Zurich to do a PhD in information technology and translational neuromodelling. During this, he completed the 4-year postgraduate training programme in psychoanalysis of the Freud-Institut Zürich. Apart from psychoanalysis and neuropsychoanalysis, his research interests are in systems neuroscience, predictive coding, and disorders of the mind.
