UCL news revamped

4 May 2011

UCL News is now available in a variety of formats - a headlines digest, images, video, Twitter and an events blog - as well as press releases and notices about awards and appointments, so that you can follow UCL developments in your preferred way(s).

UCL News
The new design also enables us to:
  • promote a greater variety of UCL activity, while also creating content in new formats
  • present UCL News in formats that can be more easily shared
  • cater for the general trend among all age groups away from digesting longer text-based articles in favour of drawing quickly on a variety of sources of information, as found by UCL Information Studies research for the British Library, summarised on UCL News.

Several elements of the new design are also reflected on the 'Discover UCL' section of the homepage (www.ucl.ac.uk), which now features the headlines digest, links to UCL presences on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and iTunes, and a feed of upcoming public events at UCL.

The news page design is based on research conducted in 2010 about how visitors to the UCL homepage and newspage like to consume news, as well as general trends in online information consumption.

Key findings of the UCL research were the desire for news to be presented in a more dynamic fashion, on social media channels, and to incorporate more event information.

The different formats are explained in detail below, along with the reasons for this change.

Latest from UCL headlines

This is a digest of headlines covering UCL news and press coverage. Some of these links are to articles published on UCL websites, and some to external sites, such as national newspapers or government.

If you would like to submit a story or headline, please do this via our 'Tell us your story' page.

You can read the full archive of UCL News Tweets on the Twitter website by clicking on 'Follow us on Twitter'.

A feed of UCL News Tweets is available at http://feeds.feedburner.com/uclnews/twitter

UCL Events blog and Guest book

The UCL Guest book has been absorbed into the new UCL Events blog, which is designed to showcase a much greater variety of the events that take place across UCL in greater detail. It also provides an interactive, informal channel for discussion about UCL events and a way of promoting a variety of voices from across UCL.

To read the blog, go to the 'Find out more' section at the bottom of the news page and click on the 'Events blog' link, or go direct to http://blogs.ucl.ac.uk/events/

The Guest book archive is available at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/guestbook/2011
