Research

I am a Professor of Medical Physics at UCL. My group’s research is based around solving clinical problems by intelligent use of multimodal imaging data. This is divided between four themes:

· Optical imaging

My main research area has been developing optical tomography for breast cancer and functional brain imaging of adults and children. It is currently supported by 3 grants, and a long-term collaboration with Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

· Radiotherapy

I am applying multimodality imaging techniques to radiotherapy, particularly as part of UCL’s new Proton Therapy Centre. I created and now direct a new DTP in Physics of Cancer Therapy.

· Intelligent analysis of routinely acquired patient data

Examples include neonatal monitoring, predicting cancer outcomes and examining risk factors for breast cancer.

· Multispectral imaging of historical manuscripts

I am extending multimodality medical imaging techniques to recovering lost text in historical documents with the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities.
