Biography

Resident in Barbados in the 1830s, but in England at least periodically from the 1850s onwards.

  1. Marriage 17/09/1856 at St Marylebone of John Sheafe Gaskin, widower, son of Thomas Gaskin, and Mary Eversley, spinster, of Bath, daughter of John Chase Eversley solicitor. In 1861, John Sheafe Gaskin aged 70 President H.M. Council Barbados was staying with his mother-in-law Eleanor Eversley and his wife's Barbadian family at 1 Catherine Place Bath. By 1871, when the Eversley family was living at 33 Eccleston Sq, Mary was widowed.

  2. "He died in 1864 in Pimlico England on June 13,1864 at the age of 73... Honorable John Sheafe Gaskin represented the parish of St. Philip in 1835 and became the president of the legislative assembly in 1848,1849 and 1852... His contributions to Barbadian society were recognized during the 350th anniversary of Barbados. A stained glass 'Gaskin' family crest was installed in the upper chamber of the former house of assembly known today as the senate." He was very likely the John Sharpe Gaskin whose death was registered Q2 in St George's, Hanover Square, London.
