Biography

Son of Sir William Codrington 1st bart (d. 1738, who had inherited Dodington and Betty's Hope in Antigua and the enslaved people on it from his cousin Christopher Codrington II 1668-1710, as well as slave-property in Barbados from his father John Codrington) and Elizabeth Bethell. Nephew of Slingsby Bethell. MP for Beverley 1747-1761 and for Tewkesbury 1761-1792. Disinherited his son Sir William Codrington 3rd bart. in favour of his nephew, Christopher Bethell Codrington (q.v.).
