Henry Shirley II

???? - 1812

Biography

Brother of Bernard Shirley and uncle of Henry Shirley III (q.v.).

  1. Will of Henry Shirley [late of the parish of St George..but now resident in Upper Wimpole Street] of Marylebone proved 17/04/1813. The will is very long and the partial summary here is not a subsitute for consulting the will itself, which opens with a request that his body be opened up and investigated. He identified his estates as Hyde Hall and Etingdon in Trelawny and an unnamed coffee estate in St George mortgaged to John Willis and Benjamin Waterhouse (since deceased) of London merchants. He had settled £10,000 on his niece Ann on her marriage to Captain Frederick Leicester, and made a number of financial legacies of other family members, including the natural children of his brother Bernard and Henry Shirley III, to whom the estates went in trust.
