Biography

  1. "Sabina Eleanor, the daughter of Margaret Dunbar, a free Quadroon woman by James Tierney was born December 15th 1784 + baptised May 31st 1785." James Tierney was a barrister who died in Kingston, Jamaica, 1784, brother of George Tierney MP and brother-in-law of Abram Robarts MP. The will of James Tierney names Margaret Dunbar as his housekeeper: he leaves her £1000 and "all my household furniture and utensils, pictures, plate, china, linen and carriages and any one of my horses which she may choose for herself." The will also mentions Sabina's half-sister Eleanor Frances Tierney (q.v.).

  2. "Mary Blake of the Parish of Kingston a free mulatto woman and James Blake and John Blake free mulatto men, the reputed children of Nicholas Blake decd; late of the parish of St Elizabeth, Margaret Dunbar a free quadroon, daughter of the said Mary Blake and Sabena Eleanor Tierney, Margaret Robertson, Francis William Robertson and Mary Anne Robertson the infant children of the said Margaret Dunbar to all rights and privileges under certain restrictions."

  3. Sabina Eleanor Tierney registered 7 enslaved people in Kingston in 1832.

  4. Not found in England in the 1841 census but was of 32 Upper Berkeley Street, Marylebone age 60 when she died in November 1844. Buried at Kensal Green All Souls Cemetery. The will of Sabina Eleanor Tierney, Spinster of Upper Berkeley Street Portman Square, Middlesex, was proved 27/11/1844; in it she left everything to Rev Ebenezer Robertson of Shorwell[?], Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight my sole executor and Residuary Legatee to take possession of all I may possess or shall be entitled to possess by the will or deed of settlement of Mrs Margaret Dunbar deceased formerly of the town of Kingston Jamaica witness my hand this seventh day of November 1844 Sabina Eleanor Tierney signed in the presence of Susan M Welsh 40 Goodge Street Mary Ann Winward 32 Upper Berkeley Street Portman Square.
