In the market

I am having such a great time here. I am sooo pleased that I can speak some Turkish. They love to hear a foreigner speaking their language.

Photo This morning I went to a street market. It was very very cool...
Photo

First I looked for a nice skirt and a kaftan to wear over my bikini; I was spoilt for choice. Oh, and a belly dancing outfit? What about that? Guess which one I've bought?

Photo

Talking about swimming, these ‘Peştemals’ are extremely fashionable as pareos – they were traditionally used in Hamams. For colours you are spoilt for choice! The shopkeeper posed for us!

Photo

I also bought some pure soaps and Hamam bowls. They will make good presents.

Photo

What about Turkish towels?
Of course you know that Turkish towels are famous…

Photo

The slippers are so tempting too.

Photo

PhotoI also looked at some kilims. Look at my ring and my earrings. Do you like them? Jewellery was so colourful. Will look great with jeans.
Photo

I did not know which bracelet to choose...

Photo The ‘nazar boncuk’ is suppose to protect you from the evil eye...
Photo

You can see these ‘boncuks’ everywhere from towels and table clothes to charms...

Photo I got a ‘cezve’ for my mum – you make the Turkish coffee in these pots – they look very cute, I hope she likes it...
Photo And a ‘worry beater’ (tesbih), for my dad...
Photo

PhotoFOOD!

I felt a bit peckish at the market.
I was spoilt for choice...
Walnuts (cevizler),
Olives (zeytinler),
Grapes (üzümler)
and cherries (kirazlar) to die for!!

Photo Vegetables (sebzeler),
Photo

Salads (salatalar)...

Photo The  more you feast your eyes the hungrier you feel!!
Photo

It would be nice to have a typical Turkish table laid out for us, but we found a very cosy restaurant instead.

Photo We drank some ‘Turkish tea’ afterwards and snacked on some dry figs... YUMMY!
Photo Tomorrow morning I’ll have a Turkish breakfast on the balcony.
Photo SORRY, BUT CAN'T EAT ONE ‘SIMIT’ I AM FULL !!
