Issues in the Archaeology of Nubia

C603bldg01.jpg

The course will examine Nubia as a region of archaeological study, which may be particularly pertinent to students whose interests lie in African archaeology or Egyptology. It will cover the archaeology of the middle Nile and adjacent regions from the pre-agricultural early Holocene to the Christianisation of Nubia in the sixth century AD. The course will explore major cultural transitions, including the beginnings of food production, the relationships between Nubian polities and ancient Egypt and the rise and fall of states in Nubia.
