Chapter 8: Academic Partnerships Framework

Changes to Chapter 8: Academic Partnerships Framework

1. Section 4: The Lifecycle of an Academic Partnership

  • Parts 4.3, 4.4, 4.6

Due Diligence Check and Risk Assessment

From 2023/24 Academic Policy, Quality and Standards (APQS) will complete a Due Diligence Checklist and a Risk Assessment on all partners put forward as part of new Academic Partnerships or Renewed Academic Partnerships.

This has been introduced to support UCL in assuring itself that the partnerships it enters into do not lead to any un-intended risks to the University.

Due Diligence Checklists and Risk Assessments will form part of the paperwork considered by the Academic Partnerships Panel when assessing if a new or renewed partnership can gain approval.

  • Parts 4.4, 4.6

Site Visit Checklist

Currently site visit checklists are required to be completed where a Flying Faculty/Off-Site partnership is being established. From 2023/24 it will also be a requirement that these checklists are completed for any Flying Faculty/Off-Site Partnerships that are undergoing renewal.
This is so UCL can assure itself that nothing has changed since the last check was carried out.

Part 4.7

From 2023/24 all Partnerships with Joint Management Committees will be required to provide to APQS, by 1st October of the autumn term, minutes from the preceding academic year’s Joint Management Committee meetings. This is to enhance the monitoring of partnerships on an annual basis following the end of the Annual Student Experience Review (ASER).

2. Changes to Forms

  • Academic Partnership Renewal Form

The following amendments have been made to the Academic Partnership Renewal Form for the 2023/24 Academic Year to support the Academic Partnerships Panel in considering renewals:

  • Request for confirmation partnerships still meet strategic aims of the University.
  • Requirement to provide, rather than summarise, student feedback for the previous three-years.
  • Requirement to provide last three-years External Examiner's reports, instead of summarising last three-year's External Examiner feedback (where, for any reason, these are not available via the APQS team)
  • Requirement to provide information on complaints received relevant to the partnership/programme for the last three-years (where, for any reason these, are not available via the Casework team – i.e. where complaints relevant to the partnership have been resolved locally or by the partner).
  • Requirement to provide evidence of partner’s continued commitment to the partnership

  • Site Visit Checklist Form

The following amendments have been made to the Site Visit Checklist Form for the 2023/24 Academic Year to support the Academic Partnerships Panel in considering renewals:

  • Requirement to summarise the student support services in-place at the partner.
  • Requirement for Anti-Racism, Sexual Harassment, Health and Safety policies or equivalent at the site to be provided.
