Meet Tom Crummey, Director of IT Service and Operations and Portfolio Lead for Digital Infrastructure.

Tom Crummey
About Tom

Tom joined UCL in 1997 as Computer Systems and Network Manager for the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

An institutional-wide desire to have the voice of academic departments heard in the development of IT Services gave Tom the opportunity to become involved in a number of large-scale projects at UCL, including the Finance Information System, Desktop@UCL, and many Network enhancements.

With assistance from ISD colleagues, Tom also set up and ran the UCL IT Managers’ forum, which acted as a stakeholder group at UCL for a number of years.

In 2015, Tom obtained a secondment into ISD as Director of Technology Services – the rest, as they say, is history! After undertaking several roles within the department, including Programme Director for Data Centre Migration and Director of IT for Professional Services and the Bartlett, Tom currently oversees the Digital function that provides UCL’s day-to-day IT services.

Tom’s team manages the entirety of UCL’s centrally-funded IT Services, ranging from data centers and communication hub rooms, to software and applications for enterprise administration and teaching. Alongside this, the team also provides deskside support, and maintains and services audio-visual facilities for UCL’s 400 teaching spaces and technology-enabled meeting rooms.

Tom is committed to ensuring that IT services enable everyone to achieve their professional and academic goals safely and efficiently, with as little distraction as possible.
