Organisational Experience

November 2010-present: Part of a panel of early-career researchers working alongside staff from the UCL Public Engagement Unit to set up the Bite-Sized Lunchtime Lecture series. This is a new lunchhour lecture series at UCL for early-career researchers.

 

November 2009-present: Volunteer with Cycletastic, a community-based organisation in Kilburn which provides access to cycling. Mainly involved in cycle maintenance events, acting as the liaising person between the public and the bike fixers, ensuring that things move smoothly. In a typical 3 hour session I deal with around 75 people and co-ordinate work between 5 fixers.

 

January 2010: Helped organise the ‘Working with Archives’ meeting at John Latham House for 30 students within the Collaborative Doctoral Students Network.

Public Engagement Experience

Ann Fenech and Lord HoweMarch 2011: Presented at the inaugural Bite-Size Lunchtime Lecture. The lecture given was 'Pollutants: Are Museum Collections Self-Destructing?'


October 2010: Represented the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) at an event organised by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology at the House of Commons to present innovative scientific research to MPs and other invited guests


October 2010: Nominated for the student UCL Provost’s award for Public Engagement


May 2010: UCL bursary to attend the Cheltenham Science Festival. Wrote about the event as a student reporter for the UCL Communications team: www.ucl.ac.uk/cheltenhamblog/author/annfenech


April 2010: Accepted as part of the New Outlooks in Science and Engineering (NOISE) programme, a UK-wide campaign funded by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The programme provides early-career researchers with the tools to communicate the importance and relevance of their research to a wide public audience


March 2010: Presented at an event at The National Archives for 14-19 year olds called ‘To Save or not to Save

Computer Competences

Proficient user of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access); obtained the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) in 2009.

 

Good command of Origin, MATLAB, LaTeX, SPSS and MiniTab.

 

Basic knowledge of graphic design packages including Adobe Photoshop and Corel, and web-authoring tools including Dreamweaver.

 

Familiar with ArcGIS and MapInfo GIS software, and Hyperchem (a molecular modelling package).
