ChemPhysSoc 2006 World Cup Predictor

With the big kick off only a week away, the Chemical and Physical Society invite you to join in the fun by entering out fantastic competition: CPS World Cup Predictor 2006!.

To enter, all you have to do is predict the scores of the 48 group matches in this year's World Cup.

Taking part is easy: simply fill in our entry form and return it to cps_worldcup@yahoo.co.uk. Alternatively, entry forms will be available from the Chemistry Department's reception. Completed forms should be returned to Bevan in Room 105 between the hours of 13.00-16.00 p.m. daily.

In addition, a team competition will run concurrently. To enter a team, a team captain must designate a name ("The Lanthanides") and lists the team members (5-8 members). The team with the highest cumulative total for the top 5 members wins the team prize, which is yet to be established, but we can assure readers it will be good!

Points are awarded for correct predictions of both match outcomes and team scores. Extra points can be won by answering our bonus questions. But that's not all! Our unique points system takes into consideration the official FIFA rankings of each team and applies a 'tariff' to each game. So if the highest ranked team (Brazil) were to play the lowest ranked team (Togo), less points are awarded for predicting a win for the former than for the latter. For more information, please read the competition rules.

A cash prize of at least £100 will be awarded to the highest ranked player after all 48 games. In addition there will be further prizes for 2nd and 3rd places, highest points total for each round of group games, and for the higest placed 'team' of players.

The cost of entry is £2. Payment can be made in Room 105 during the hours specified above. Any profits made will be donated to the Chemical Physical Society, UCL.

Weekly updates of the scores, in addition to competition rules and scoring, are also available right here on our website www.chemphyssoc.org.uk. We aim to update scores within an hour of a particular match having ended. All entries must be paid by Friday 9th June, 2 p.m.

Good Luck!!
