Figure: The top graph shows the principal squared radii of gyration (left-hand axis, $\mbox{\AA}$2) of the 552-atom cluster of LaF3 as it was heated from 10 K to above its vaporization temperature. The dotted line shows the variation of temperature (right-hand axis). The inset shows, on the same time axis, the expansion of the cluster after evaporation: here the radii of gyration are plotted, again in $\mbox{\AA}$2, on the right-hand axis of the inset. The vibrations in the solid regime (region A) are enlarged in the central graph: the averages over the period from 2 to 12 ps have been subtracted off. The bottom graph shows the oscillations of the liquid drop (region B) after 31-point moving averaging. The solid, dash-dotted and long-dashed lines correspond to the maximum, intermediate and minimum squared radii of gyration respectively.
