The Institute of Ophthalmology is committed to a multidisciplinary research portfolio that furthers both a fundamental understanding of the eye and visual system and the development of clinical investigations targetted to specific problems in the prevention and treatment of eye disease.

The Institute of Ophthalmology achieved the highest possible rating in the recent Research Assessment Exercise carried out by HEFCE.
