Since 1995 astronomers have found evidence for planets orbiting nearby stars. In those early years, discoveries were at the rate of a few every year. Better technology and space observatories have increased the rate so today we know of several thousand solar systems.
But how can we be so sure if we can not see them directly? Even more, will technology allow us to know what kind of planets are they and how many may have conditions for life, or even intelligent life?
In this exhibit, we show some of this work, the challenges and the rewards so far.
