SUPPORT is a training course designed to equip health professionals to provide high quality bereavement care for parents who experience pregnancy loss. The course explores parents’ experiences, and the profound psycho-social impacts of perinatal loss and offers up to date evidence and practical tools for caring for them.
Open to: all healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives, healthcare support workers and allied health professionals
Cost: £100 for doctors, £75 for midwives and other health professionals
Location: UCL, exact location tbc

This a multiprofessional UCL-led one-day training course.
The course looks at a range of areas impacting on the delivery of high quality bereavement care for all stages of pregnancy loss.

Session 1: Overview & Understanding the burden of stillbirth

Session 2: Parent experiences and grief reactions
Parent experiences – an opportunity to hear directly from parents about their experience of perinatal loss The psychological impact of stillbirth – delivered by Karen Burgess, founder and CEO of Petals Counselling charity Experiences of stillbirth – panel discussion
Session 3: Communication and postmortem consent
Break out sessions either discussing communication around stillbirth, or specialist bereavement care provision (targeted at more experienced healthcare providers or service leads) Postmortem consent
Session 4: Bereavement care in different situations
Specialist break out sessions and talks including: Miscarriage and early pregnancy loss, neonatal death, termination for fetal anomalies (in partnership with ARC), discordant fetal anomalies

Overall, this was an excellent day which I really enjoyed and I really hope you will continue.
It was really noticeable how passionate the course leaders are and this really makes a difference.
Valuable learning opportunity
Feel more confident about looking after bereaved families and PM consent.
Being a student, I am yet to start giving bereavement care autonomously but I feel much equipped and aware after the course.
It is obvious that it will be traumatising but having attended the course has in a way prepared me for the job.
This was an excellent study day. The content was great, the speakers were inspiring and passionate. There were many take homes but it also helped to give me confidence that in the areas I knew I am doing the right thing. Thank you! I think this was an excellent course which should be attended by all O&G trainees, as we don't have any formal training on how to provide care/support to bereaved parents.
