Once again, the EGA Institute for Women's Health is marking International Women's Day with a series of special events

The Institute for Women’s Health hosted four, free, events to celebrate #iwd2023.

Tuesday 7th March - 13.00 - 14.00: How does social media portray women's health? - Online panel discussion

With the explosion of social media, it is important to see how this media is portraying women’s health. Social media has the opportunity to educate women, and support them through key life stages. But is this what is really happening? This event is an online panel discussion to look at how social media portrays infertility and infertility treatment, the menopause and women’s body satisfaction.

Tuesday 7th March 2023 - 7.00 - 8.30 pm: Play: 'Next of Kin'

"We share socks, we share pants, we share donors, we share boobs. Just kidding. But we're not together OK?"

Next of kin is a verbatim show about all the (other) ways to make a family. Created through recorded interviews, this collage of voices explores kinship experiments which could unmake dominant assumptions about family: nuclear, romatic, private, genetic, heterosexual, linear, economic.

Wednesday 8^th March 2023, 1.00 - 2.00 pm: Panel Discussion: 'What can Femtech do for women'

Hybid Meeting - Face to Face (Bentham House, LG26 Lecture Room) and Online via Zoom link

Femtech is the growing business of technology for women’s health which is estimated to be worth $50 billion by 2025. Women are 75% more likely to use digital health tools than men. Femtech includes trackers to monitor a woman’s menstrual cycle, fertility, contraception, pregnancy, menopause, sexual wellness and much more. This event is a panel discussion with three app companies that support women at different stages in their reproductive life: Flo, a period tracker app, natural cycles, a contraception app and Adora, a menopause app.

50% of the world’s population have periods and yet, even in 2023, conversation and education around menstruation is still sparce. Here at UCL IfWH we are trying to change this. We want to open up the conversation about periods and tackle the shame and stigma surrounding them, whilst arming menstruators with the information that they need to understand their bodies and their periods. This will be an engaging event with a panel discussion, film screening, charity raffle and other fun and educational period-themed activities and conversations. Let’s talk periods!
