Nicoletta Kessaris Awarded £547,000 grant from the BBSRC

Dr Nicoletta Kessaris has been awarded a £547,000 grant (fEC) from the BBSRC to examine the functions and interactions of key transcriptional regulators in cortical interneuron development.

As interneurons play pivotal roles in cortical processing and have been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism spectrum disorders and Schizophrenia, the research will have wider implications in basic science and disease.

The project is for a duration of three years. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the group of Dr Huiliang Li (WIBR, UCL) as well as external collaborations with the Crick Institute, the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University in the USA.
