UCL Next Chapter is an exciting new Year 7 Literacy attainment programme developed by UCL’s Widening Participation team.
UCL Next Chapter is an in-school tutoring programme that pairs trained UCL Tutors with small groups of Year 7 students with the aim of motivating and fostering a love of reading, through developing key reading skills. UCL Next Chapter has been developed in partnership with The National Literacy Trust, who have designed the weekly lessons, activities, and resources.
Over the course of 12 weeks, students will explore a variety of texts through practical and discussion-based activities. These activities have been designed to build confidence in the use of five key comprehension skills – Predicting, Recall, Questioning, Inference, and Summary. Through developing such skills, students will be able to understand the importance and power of reading.
As the first year of the programme is a pilot, we will be working with five selected partner schools across London.
