UCL East Saturday Club – Writing and Talking

Free weekly workshops for students in Years 9, 10 and 11, who live and/or go to school in the London boroughs of Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest.

UCL East Writing and Talking Club will hone your skills in both areas through a broad programme of exciting activities.

Delivered by UCL experts and creative professionals, this fun and inclusive club will give you the chance to try out a wide range of forms of written and spoken expression. You’ll learn how to think creatively, work with others and express ideas through words, sounds, performance and more.

Try your hand at creative writing, journalism or debating. Learn about the language of the law, express yourself in poetry and performance and get inspired by writing and speech from different times and places.

The club is held weekly during term time, at UCL's Marshgate building on the Olympic Park in Stratford, London. You'll get to experience our campus in your sessions as you gain insights into some of the ways that writing and talking happen at UCL.

This club is open to young people in Years 9, 10 and 11 (as of September 2025), who live or go to school in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Dates and Times

The club runs 10:00–13:00 on Saturdays during term time. The club will start in November 2025 and run until May 2026. Full session dates will be confirmed in writing on acceptance to the Club.
