Chimpanzee and human skulls

Chimp voice

Chimpanzees use simple vocal calls to communicate - press the button above to hear a 'pant-hoot' call, made when members of a group are reunited.

Humans use language to communicate, mainly through speech and hearing. This probably depended on the evolution of a larger brain, and on changes in the shape and mobility of the tongue and the jaw.
