Grounding Knowledge: Reflections on community-driven practices in South East Asia at Cities Methodologies 2014

This event seeks to showcase the long-standing and multi-faceted collaboration around the co-production of informal settlement upgrading in South East Asia between two Development Planning Unit (DPU) MSc programmes (MSc Building and Urban Design in Development and MSc Urban Development Planning), the Asian Coalition of Housing Rights (ACHR), the Community Architects Network (CAN) and the communities with which they work.

The event will present the methodologies developed by the partnership in the contexts of field trips and studio work: participatory design, community mapping, strategic action planning, scenario development and new media to co-produce knowledge and disseminate findings. The exhibitors will also present the book produced by the first group of ACHR/DPU Junior Professionals Programme interns - detailing their experiences and learnings over a 6 month internship in Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines (using multi-media) and launch the new call for participants in the Junior Professionals internship programme for 2014/2015. 

Grounding Knowledge is hosted by Caroline Newton (Lecturer, MSc Building and Urban Design in Development) and Barbara Lipietz (Lecturer and Co-Director, MSc Urban Development Planning, DPU)
