Urban Confab Reading Group at UCL

The Urban Confab Reading Group brings together a small group of early-career scholars at UCL with a curiosity and enthusiasm for urban issues, theories and debates. Drawing across a variety of disciplines, the emphasis is on fostering new speculative, critical and collaborative approaches to the city.

Informal urban Confab meetings are held every few weeks. A particular urban area is used to explore, and complicate, a process or theme, with an emphasis not only on the contemporary but historical antecedents. As well as drawing on academic texts (maximum 40 pages for each meeting), the group also considers relevant films and literature. The rationale is that ongoing interdisciplinary discussion across cities in divergent contexts will reveal new commonalities and contrasts, and begin to map alternative sources of learning for urban studies.
