The Bartlett Urban Film Society presents an evening of short films narrating social and urban transformations in today's Cuba. The event includes the screening of the award-winning documentary Doble Forza (2006), directed by M. Conti and L. Tripodi of Oginoknauss, an independent research group dealing with audiovisual language and urban cultures. Doble Forza reconstructs the history of Alamar, a new city build in the 1970s on the outskirts of La Habana and explores "a new incarnation of the late modern periphery".
The evening also includes the screening of three works from the UCL Documentary Summer School in Cuba, co-ordinated by Professor Stephen Hart (UCL Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies) and held at the world-famous Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television. Stephen Hart will chair the discussion with Lorenzo Tripodi (researcher in urban studies, urban dermatologist and film-maker) and the participants in last year's UCL Documentary Summer School in Cuba.
