Natural Capital Initiative Symposium:
Valuing Our Life Support Systems
Wednesday 29 April - Friday 1 May 2009
The Natural Capital Initiative is organising an exciting symposium to help value and safeguard our environmental assets. There will be a facilitated workshop on Day 2 to explore the urban planning system and sustainable development options.
We all depend on the capital base provided by the earth's natural resources - our Natural Capital. A new framework called the ecosystem approach will help us to value the goods and services provided by our natural environments and lead to better decision-making about using and managing our natural resources. Join delegates and speakers from government, parliament, research, agencies, business and NGOs to discuss the challenges of applying the ecosystem approach, identify gaps in science and policy and explore solutions.
The Natural Capital Initiative is a partnership of the Institute of Biology, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, the British Ecological Society and the Science Council.
