A PhD at UCLIC will enable you to develop as a researcher in Human-Computer Interaction, gaining expertise and a variety of specialised and transferrable skills.

students in a lab setting
UCLIC PhD students are integral part of our research team, each pursuing their individual research project. They work under the direct supervision of two or more members of academic staff, and within a vibrant, research-intensive environment. They have access to facilities, formal and informal training opportunities at UCLIC and across the entirety of UCL. UCLIC PhD graduates pursue careers in leading universities and major technology industries worldwide.

PhD applicants are generally expected to have a commitment to and demonstrated ability in research (such as in an undergraduate or a master's research project), in addition to meeting the requirements specified on the UCLIC PhD prospectus page. Often, previous research experience and performance will show whether research is right for you, and whether you are right for research.

"I feel very fortunate to have obtained my PhD from UCLIC, ranked as one of the top HCI research institutes in the world. UCLIC provided a very friendly and supportive environment to develop as a researcher, mentor and teacher. My supervisor Ann Blandford, and other academics I collaborated with were always on hand to guide me in the right direction while allowing me the freedom to work independently at my own pace. I am also extremely grateful to have been a part of a fantastic cohort of mutually supportive colleagues, some of whom have become lifelong friends."
