Jeremy Beartham joins sabbatical officers to open new TeamUCL Gym East
11 February 2026
We recently celebrated the opening of the new Team UCL Gym East, featuring brand new facilities and classes.
Students and staff alike will be able to make use of a brand-new gym, recently installed in the One Pool Street building.
The gym features a full range of machines, equipment and weights, with a large open central area for classes and stretching. The room is spacious and light-filled, making it the ideal place to work out.
The UCL East team gathered this week to mark its opening with healthy fruit platters and cheat-day cupcakes on offer for attendees.
Activities and Engagement Officer, Anastasija Boikova, was on hand to welcome guests, saying in her speech at the event:
‘It was very important to me and the rest of the sabbatical officers to deliver a project that made a difference for students at East. We’ve managed to pack so much in the space, including bikes, rowing machines, cardio equipment, and a free weights section. The gym will also be home to a new range of classes that will be starting soon.’
Our VIP guest for the occasion was none other than Jeremy Beartham, who helped with the ribbon cutting, before being the first to get stuck into some serious lifting.
Jeremy thrilled onlookers with his manly attempts at a 2.5 kilogram bicep curl. He even broke a sweat on the leg press machine. Unlike other bears, Jeremy never skips leg day.
The gym is run by the Students’ Union UCL and is offering an introductory offer of just £100 for nine months for both staff and students. Working out at just over £11 a month, it’s an absolute steal compared to many of the surrounding offerings.
