About Vita

Vita speaks: English, Lithuanian, Russian
Vita’s time at UCL: Over 3 years
Fun fact: Used to be in a girl band

When Vita first came to UCL East, there were no students, or staff rushing to lectures, no events or exhibitions in the building.

We used to walk across the corridors when there was no furniture and it was still under construction,” she remembers.

Having seen the space transform from bare walls to a state-of-the-art campus with a brilliant community, she’s been here since the very beginning.

For Vita, the best part of her role is being able to interact with people every day.

She especially adores the energy across campus during events, “Welcome Week 2025 was a lovely atmosphere, with everyone so happy,” she says.

Vita is a seasoned professional when it comes to the UK higher education (HE) sector. Before joining UCL, she worked at Istituto Marangoni and even Senate House (University of London) during the pandemic.

Her wealth of experience in HE has given her a broader perspective, and she loves how often paths cross again. One of her fondest UCL memories was at an event at Marshgate where she bumped into a colleague from her Istituto Marangoni days.

Outside of work, Vita is a musician at heart. Singing is her passion, and she even performed in her very own band, Grupė Dijos, eight years ago. Be sure to catch one of their performances on YouTube.

With music being a huge part of her life, it wasn’t surprising that Vita said that she would want to study something Arts inclined at UCL and maybe even learn to play the piano.

Music has also shaped her love for languages and so it's no surprise that she taught herself Russian by listening to songs and watching movies. Besides Russian, she also speaks English and her native tongue, Lithuanian.

Beyond her artistic flair, Vita also enjoys spending time with her young children. One of their favourite east London spots is the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.

Vita especially loves the summertime vibes at Westfield, “There are so many events, and my kids love to play in the water fountains.”

She is a big fan of east London’s many green spaces and parks. Her favourite is her local park near the Royal Docks, where she can even watch the Thames run behind her house.

Vita is also passionate about keeping active, and she says that athletics is her Olympic sport of choice, something she quite enjoyed as a child.

At work, Vita keeps things simple with her go-to beverage of choice; either water or a black tea. Her safety advice for students is straightforward too:

Vita's top safety tip for you

Be vigilant and careful about your surroundings.

When you see Vita on campus, ask her about her music and maybe she’ll invite you to one of her jam sessions.
