Professor Paola Lettieri appointed UCL Vice Provost (Strategy)
9 January 2025
Professor Paola Lettieri has been appointed UCL Vice Provost (Strategy). Her appointment to this position comes after almost a year as acting Vice President (Strategy), as well as Pro-Provost (UCL East).
The change of title for Prof Lettier's role, from Vice President to Vice Provost, emphasises the importance placed on academic leadership in UCL’s strategy and development.
In her new role, our UCL East campus on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will remain a major focus of Paola's work. She will continue to lead the team that manages the campus in Stratford and spearhead plans for the second phase of its development, UCL East Phase 2.
As a result of Prof Lettieri’s appointment, UCL East’s management and operations team will merge with the Office of the Vice Provost (Strategy) team (OVPS), which leads on UCL’s institutional strategy and strategic plans.
OVPS provides insight and data to inform and align institutional decisions, monitor progress against agreed goals, and shape responses to external and internal challenges and opportunities. The team offers expert strategic planning support to UCL faculties, including student number planning and the development of our academic portfolio, and manages UCL data governance.
The OVPS team also leads on Academic Ambition, one of UCL’s institutional priority projects for 2025, which seeks to identify how to build on our academic excellence in the next decade and beyond. UCL’s estate, including our UCL East campus, will play a central role in realising that ambition.
Professor Lettieri said:
"I am honoured to take up this role on a permanent basis and I am delighted that UCL East continues to be part of my remit. Thanks to the hard work and creativity of our staff and students, our new campus goes from strength to strength. It is an exemplar of strategic development, serving not only the university, our research, and our students, but also the surrounding communities in which it operates.
"Our work on Phase 2 is gathering momentum: early conversations with academic leaders as part of Academic Ambition have reinforced its potential as a catalyst for UCL's medium to long-term future. I have been impressed and inspired by the achievements of staff and students at UCL East over the last two years and am excited to see what the coming year will bring.’
